Mark your calendar for the Open Fields Medieval Festival: Saturday, May 27, 2023

Come join the fun of the Open Fields Medieval Festival on Saturday, May 27, 2023 on the Thetford Hill Green from 11 am to 4 pm.

After a three year hiatus due to the plague, the Medieval Festival is back!

Come enjoy period music, food and desserts (including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices), and games and crafts for kids of all ages.

See the procession of students, led by Benny the Dragon, and the knighting of Open Fields graduates by our Queen and King. VINS will present "The Sport of Kings". There’ll be a children’s quest and hedge maze; indigo dyeing, weaving, metalwork, calligraphy, basket-making, knitting, and other period crafts; hair-braiding and face-painting, and more!

In the past, this event has been named a "Pick for Kids" by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce: "During this family-friendly celebration, the town center comes alive with the sights and sounds of a medieval village. Come in costume... meet Benny the Dragon, and enjoy feats of juggling and acrobatics. Even teens will go home happy." So bring a friend, bring your appetite, and bring your enthusiasm. We look forward to seeing you there!

Open Fields Looking for Board Members

Open Fields School is looking for additional board members, near and far! Ideally, prospective board members would be familiar with and supportive of the school and our philosophy, and interested in seeing us thrive for the next 50-ish years and beyond. The board meets remotely each month (currently on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7pm), and we're open to continuing remote and/or hybrid meetings into the future. If you, or someone you know, might be interested, please contact us.
